Folding a monster
They always say that folding Kings is a true test of a poker player. If you have never laid KK down pre flop to a re-raise then so be it, if you have never laid it down on a flop, perhaps you should, not laid down on a turn then , you really need to consider stopping playing and if you have never laid it down on a river then please dont bother reading any further.
Yesterday I received huge criticism for laying down AK suited and showing it.
Here were my reasons. Tom has bet a third of his stack pre flop (20BBs) and is playing fast and loose. I have 35BBs in my stack and we are close to getting down to two full tables, we were 6 handed at the time. I know that Im in a race or could have him locked up as there is such a huge array of hands with which Tom would make the move. I still fold. Why do I want to be flipping a coin for two thirds my stack if I miss the flop when there are still seventeen runners left and we are not even close to the money ? He also gets to act first after the flop, and will continuation bet no matter.
I prefer to be making raises with AK in my book and not always be calling them , subject to the state of the tournament. Short stacked I will push, a reasonable stack and I will fold, a very comfortable stack and I will call or event reraise. Its just a question of the state of the game , relative chip stacks and position.
Colin said it was a disgraceful fold and that he would offer me 5-1 against me winning. I said I will gladly back myself to the tune of 100 quid and he refused to take it. Saved him 500 quid in the end.
Another good finish by Dan and Ice Cream and welcome back to Lucy who had the gall to demand that she be nominated winner when we get heads up and she has a 3-1 chip lead.....without even oiffering me an extra tenner "! The atmosphere has been quite frosty ever since and I didn't get any dinner this evening :-)
